Turkish, Egyptian Officials Discuss Gaza Ceasefire
Hakan Fidan and Badr Abdelatty spoke by phone about ongoing ceasefire negotiations and initiatives aimed at enhancing the humanitarian conditions in the area, the sources noted.
It is reported that Hamas has given a favorable response to a ceasefire proposal designed to bring an end to the conflict in Gaza.
In a related development, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Cairo on Monday.
An official statement from the Egyptian presidency highlighted that Sisi and Sheikh Mohammed underscored the significance of continuing their collaborative efforts, in coordination with the US, “to reach an agreement that guarantees an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip that allows the immediate and unhindered access to humanitarian aid, as well as the release of hostages.”
Last week, Israel’s Security Cabinet gave its approval to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s strategy to completely reoccupy Gaza.
This decision sparked widespread international condemnation and domestic protests, with critics warning it could represent a “death sentence” for Israeli captives held within the territory.
Since October 2023, when Hamas launched an attack on Israel and captured more than 200 hostages, Israel has reportedly killed over 62,000 people in the Gaza Strip.
